Wine in the Western Cape is part of everyday life-a tradition dating back nearly 350 years. At the core of this tradition is the setting of the Winelands, surely one of the grandest backdrops a wine lover could desire. Soaring, rugged mountains, lush steep-sided valleys, dizzying passes, images of oak trees-post card pretty towns with historic buildings aplenty.
Your camera lingers lovingly on the enchanting detail of the unique Cape Dutch architecture, of elaborately wrought gables, of fine dark polished woodwork, of ornamental ponds, of wagons and trailers laden with grapes.
But we’re also here to taste and savour the superb selection of outstanding wine styles. Enjoy a long day’s wine tasting, ‘wine speak’ and you’ll sip more than our great wine-you’ll taste our South African way of life! The wines vary from estate to estate as the subtle influences of soil, microclimate, grape variety and not least the skill of the winemaker express themselves in our award winning wines. We’ll linger in some of these pretty towns.
Stellenbosch - South Africa’s second oldest town and arguably its prettiest heart of the South African industry-a university town of great beauty and culture, steeped in South African tradition.
Paarl - regarded by many as the country’s leading wine producing area- it has a rich architectural heritage and an atmosphere of quiet tranquillity.
Franschhoek - Prides itself as the food and wine capital of South Africa-a claim that’s easily demonstrated. Set in one of country’s most magnificent valleys, the artistry of its chefs and winemakers compliment its breathtaking beauty.
A A minimum one day tour-but why not overnight in one of the wine estates guest houses in the Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek valleys-wine will never be the same again!
