Kirstenbosch Botanical
Gardens
A
short drive takes us to the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens ,
situated on the eastern slopes of Table
Mountain.
The
upper region is a magnificant wild reserve of
evergreen forests; While the lower portion
is planted with well over 4,000 species of
indigenous flora. These originate from all over
the country including a splendid collection of
cycads, proteas, ericas, just to name a few. We
will see them all on a guided golfcart tour and
then picnic on the lawns.
Groot Constantia Estate Manor
House
Our
next stop takes us to this magnificant
example of the truly unique Cape Dutch style of
architecture and is home to one of the countries
most acclaimed wine estates.
There's
plenty to see in this richly restored thatched
manor house - A priceless
collection of Cape antique pieces, old Dutch
paintings, Delft and Chinese porcelain.
Groot Constantia dates back to 1685 and was one
of the first buildings to be proclaimed a
national monument.
Hout Bay Harbour
We
then drive through the exclusive suburb of
Bishopscourt, once of of Arch-Bishop
Desmond Tutum, over Constantia Nek into the
Hout Bay valley and
its bustling fishing harbour.
The turquoise
bay is 'guarded' by the destinctive Sentinel
Peak. We will view the wonderful views
from the harbour from Chapman's
Peak Drive .
Home
time, we pass in the shadow of the magnificant
rockbuttresses known as the Twelve Apostles,
through the trendy Camps Bay and Clifton with
its internationally acclaimed lily white
beaches.
